Trainee Solicitor

Wright & Lord are offering a Trainee Solicitor position which will give the right candidate the breadth of experience to emerge as a confident solicitor. You will be given the opportunity to explore all our practice areas: commercial, private client, litigation, family and conveyancing. You will be fully supported by a principal and the whole team.

We are looking for a university law graduate who has ideally completed their SQE or LPC.


Whilst your experience in each department will be very different, in all of them you will develop your legal and business skills, gain insight into our high profile clients and enhance your commercial awareness. The tasks you undertake could include: drafting and proofing documents, conducting due diligence, attending client meetings, preparing documents for a court hearing, researching titles and leases on a real estate portfolio or creating a data room ahead of a major transaction.

Throughout your training contract, you will be closely supported, both informally and through formal mentoring.

If you require adjustments and additional support we will work with you to produce a tailored accessibility plan outlining how the firm will support you throughout your training contract and beyond.

Experience and skills

We expect our trainees to be problem-solvers with a meticulous attention to detail, a willingness to learn, articulate with exceptional communication and customer service and the ability to work well in a team.


£20,000 – £23,000 depending on qualification

Legal Secretary/Assistant

Full-time, Permanent

Wright & Lord are looking for a Legal Secretary/Assistant to work in our Probate Department. Wright and Lord Solicitors is a dynamic modern law firm, a particularly friendly place to work, currently growing its committed team with plans for further growth in the coming year. Previous legal experience would be preferred but is not essential. The job will be primarily based in our Bare Office. Full training will be given.

  • The prime role of the Legal Secretary/Assistant is to provide direct support to his/her Principal. This will include but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below. The Legal Secretary/Assistant is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative.

Main responsibilities

  • To prepare correspondence and documents through autonomous working, initiative and familiarity with the client matter and relevant law and/or procedure, research, audiotyping and/or shorthand and word processing.
  • To administer filing which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files in accordance with the detailed procedures contained in the Office Manual.
  • To prepare mail and enclosures for despatch.
  • To arrange for all copying to be done.
  • To make appointments, arrange meetings and to maintain an up-to-date diary for his/her Principal.
  • To provide support to other secretaries and assistants as required.
  • To provide guidance to junior and temporary secretaries when required to do so.
  • To attend clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care.
  • To undertake any specific training when required to do so and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development.
  • To ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and client’s documentation and information.
