Supporting the Defying Dementia campaign

We are proud to confirm that our chosen fund raising target for 2020 is the Defying Dementia campaign, based at Lancaster University.

The campaign is fundraising to support the University’s pioneering research into Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Over the past five years scientists at the University have been working towards progressing a promising Alzheimer’s drug to human clinical trials. This is vital research, as currently there are no drugs available that cure, prevent or even slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s.

Recently four of us from Wright and Lord visited the University and were given a fascinating tour of their research facilities and an explanation of their work by Niklas …. who is one of the talented and ground breaking researchers. You can see from one of the photographs that he even allowed one of us to join in and handle some of the equipment! He was a very patient researcher!

The drug being developed is the first of it’s kind as it tackles both “plaques” and “tangles”, the two primary causes of Alzheimer’s disease. Research so far is proving to be very positive indeed and hopefully can soon progress towards human clinical trials.

Obviously all of this work costs a great deal of money and Defying Dementia needs lots of help and support from the community. At Wright and Lord we are proud to do our bit and urge you to do yours. We are very happy to give you more information and also guidance if you wish perhaps to consider a gift in your will.

You can pick up a really informative leaflet for Defying Dementia in any of our offices or if we can help put you in touch with them just call in or ring us and we will do our best to help.

We are really proud and excited to support this fantastic research and hope that you are able to help out as well.
